Wang Yan Chief Executive Officer and President, SINA Corporation Wang Yan was born in May 1972, in Beijing. He received an LLB from the University of Paris in 1996. Wang Yan co-founded SRSNET.com, one of the first Chinese commercial websites, in 1996. He was instrumental in the incorporation of SINA.com based on the merger of SRSNET.com and SINANET.com in 1998 and acted as general manager of the new company's China division. He became President of SINA Corporation in June 2001, and has been CEO and President of SINA Corporation since May 2003. Wang Yan has accumulated a wealth of experience in multinational operation management, market development and financing strategies. Quick to identify the right opportunities, Wang has carried out large-scale financing and acquisitions since he was appointed CEO. Owing to his successful strategies, SINA issued some US$100 million corporate bonds on the NASDAQ market, acquired Shanghai Fortune Trip and Shenzhen Crillion Corporation, partnered with Yahoo! to enter the online auction business, and launched game portal service in association with Korean game portal company Plenus in a bid to develop new revenue lines in tourism, wireless value-added services (VAS) and online games. Up till now, SINA has become the leading provider of Internet content service and wireless VAS in China, the revenue of which both ranking top in the industry. SINA's share price has soared to over US$40, more than doubled its IPO price, and its fiscal quarter revenue has kept growing. Under Wang's leadership, now SINA operates a branded network of 15 localized websites more than 100 million registered users and highest daily PV reaching 300 million, boasting the most popular website among the global Chinese communities. |
